Don't cut switchbacks and don't slide down steep slopes. A stealthy tread prevents erosion and avoids twisted ankles.
Try not to slosh through gravel beds in shallow water. Lots of critters lay their eggs there. Instead try to step on the tops of exposed rocks.
Don't urinate within 200 feet of open water.
And like mom said, leave the place cleaner than your found it. Bring an empty plastic bag to hold the odd beer can or cigarette butt you may encounter.
